Bagru Block Printing Workshop – Create
Your Own Wearable Masterpiece
A Journey Through Craft, Culture & Creativity
Step away from the usual tourist trail and immerse yourself in one of Rajasthan’s most
treasured artistic traditions. Our Bagru Block Printing Workshop is more than a craft
session—it’s an intimate cultural experience where you’ll learn directly from the artisan
families who have preserved this beautiful heritage for over four centuries.
Bagru block printing is an ancient art practiced by the Chhipa community, renowned for
their mastery of hand-carved wooden blocks and natural vegetable dyes. Every printed fabric
reflects generations of knowledge, patience, and craftsmanship passed down from one family
to the next. During this 2.5-hour experience, you’ll not only discover the fascinating process
behind this traditional art but also create your own wearable garment to cherish forever.
Most importantly, your participation directly supports local artisans and helps preserve one of
Rajasthan’s most celebrated craft traditions for future generations.
Workshop Highlights
Visit the Historic Chhipa Artisan Colony
Begin your journey by exploring the vibrant neighborhood where the Chhipa community has
lived and practiced the art of block printing for over 400 years.
As you wander through the narrow lanes, you’ll witness everyday life in an artisan settlement,
learn about their customs, traditions, and understand how this remarkable craft continues to
thrive despite changing times. It’s a rare opportunity to experience authentic local life beyond
Jaipur’s famous monuments.
Meet a Master Artisan
Your experience continues at the home and rooftop studio of Dinesh Ji, a respected block-
printing artisan and freestyle brush artist.
Watch live demonstrations as he shares the intricate techniques involved in preparing fabrics,
aligning wooden blocks, and creating beautiful hand-printed designs. Our local explorer will
translate and explain every step, allowing you to appreciate the patience, precision, and
artistry behind each piece.
While enjoying these conversations, relax with freshly prepared Indian fritters (pakoras) and
a cup of traditional masala chai, experiencing the warmth and hospitality that Rajasthan is
known for.
Design You Own Wearable Artwork
Now it’s your turn to become an artist.
Choose a comfortable cotton kurti (for women) or kurta (for men) that will become your
personal canvas.
Browse through an extensive collection of beautifully hand-carved wooden blocks featuring
traditional Rajasthani motifs, floral patterns, and geometric designs. Under the guidance of
Dinesh Ji and his team, you’ll spend around 45 minutes creating your own unique design
using authentic block-printing techniques.
There is no rush—take your time, experiment with different patterns, enjoy another cup of
chai if you wish, and create a garment that reflects your own creativity.
Have Your Garment Tailored
Once your printing is complete, your handcrafted fabric will be transformed into a beautifully
stitched garment.
A local tailor will take your measurements and carefully stitch your kurta or kurti while you
continue exploring the artisan neighborhood. Within approximately 30–45 minutes, your
artwork will be ready to wear.
Discover the Art of Wooden Block Carving
While your garment is being tailored, visit the workshops of skilled craftsmen who create the
wooden printing blocks themselves.
Watch artisans carve intricate patterns by hand, understand how multiple blocks are used to
create a single design, and discover the extraordinary precision required in this lesser-known
but equally important craft.
Spend time interacting with local families, hearing stories of their lives, traditions, and their
deep connection with this centuries-old profession.
Wear Your Creation
Complete your experience by returning to the tailor’s workshop to try on your newly stitched
garment.
There’s something truly special about wearing a piece of clothing that you’ve personally
designed, printed, and helped create. It becomes more than just clothing—it becomes a
meaningful memory of your time in Jaipur and a beautiful reminder of the artisans who
shared their craft with you.
This experience is designed for travellers who seek meaningful cultural connections rather
than commercial attractions.
There are no shopping stops, no sales pitches, and no hidden agendas—just genuine
conversations, shared creativity, and unforgettable moments with Jaipur’s artisan community.
By joining this workshop, you don’t simply learn an ancient craft—you become a small part
of its continuing story. Every participant helps support local artisans, preserve traditional
knowledge, and celebrate Rajasthan’s extraordinary cultural heritage.
Come as a visitor and leave with new friendships, unforgettable memories, and a handcrafted
garment that carries a story worth sharing.
