Jaipur Teej Walk

Teej Festival of Rajasthan – Experience the Colours of Monsoon & Royal Heritage

INTRODUCTION

The Teej Festival is one of the most vibrant and cherished festivals of Rajasthan, celebrated with great enthusiasm during the monsoon season, usually in the Hindu month of Shravan (July–August). Dedicated to Goddess Parvati (Teej Mata) and her divine union with Lord Shiva, the festival symbolizes love, devotion, marital happiness, prosperity, and the arrival of the life-giving rains.

Teej transforms Rajasthan into a celebration of color, music, and tradition. Women dress in beautiful Leheriya sarees, wear traditional jewelry, apply intricate mehendi (henna) designs on their hands, sing folk songs, and enjoy swings decorated with flowers and greenery. Families prepare festive delicacies such as Ghewar, Feni, and Malpua, which are closely associated with the occasion.

The grandest celebrations take place in Jaipur, where the famous Teej Mata procession (Shahi Sawari) attracts thousands of visitors from India and abroad. The beautifully adorned idol of Goddess Teej is carried through the historic streets in a royal procession featuring decorated camels, horses, elephants, traditional chariots, folk musicians, dancers, and cultural performers. The procession showcases Rajasthan’s rich royal heritage and vibrant folk traditions, making it one of the state’s most spectacular cultural events.
